Teknica Database Projects

National Technical Database


Teknica's Database (called TekBase) first installed at NOC is an Internet/Intranet based database for Exploration, Production and Technical Data Library activities.

TekBase is the world's first Integrated Exploration, Production and Technical Data Library database that is specifically designed for the Internet. TekBase is not a Unix system that has been upgraded to the Internet. TekBase does not require a terminal emulation program in order to access a Unix based user interface. The entire system displays a consistent look and feel to the user and only requires an Internet Browser (Microsoft's Internet Explorer). As a result, Teknica's database provides full input and output functionality expected of an Exploration, Production and Technical Data Library database through an Internet Browser. Once a user is given permission, he can access the database from anywhere in the world, or alternatively, access can be confined to NOC's internal network.

Teknica Database is also the world's first Exploration, Production and Technical Data Library database that is truly integrated. Teknica's database does not consist of separate standalone databases for each of many subject areas (such as a standalone database for well logs, a standalone database for seismic data, a standalone database for documents/assets, etc.). TekBase is totally integrated and designed in accordance to PPDM design principles. NOC can now extract data from across all subject areas and present the data in a single unified report, graph or map (GIS). For example, if a new well is drilled, it is entered only once in the database and can be queried and displayed on a map along with any nearby seismic lines. Everything is in one database.

Teknica also supplied NOC with the 10 rotational supervisor personnel for a 4-year period to supervise the historical data loading, new data loading and attending to client requests. Operation of the Technical Data Library included not only operating the physical stores of documents, magnet tapes and cores but also the populating of the database with on-line seismic, well, well bore (similar to the M5 well formats requirements by PeruPetro), production, field, drilling, workover, reserves, plans and budgets and projects data. A heavy component of this phase included the scanning of legacy seismic sections, reports, well files, maps and well logs.

The activities conducted by the Teknica Supervisory team are:

Loading historical and new data and perform quality control on the following data types:

  • Seismic Survey
  • Seismic Line, shot and receiver points
  • Seismic Magnet Tape Library
  • Seismic Tape Index
  • Well Index
  • Log Index
  • Log Tape Library
  • Documents Index (seismic sections, maps, well files and reports)

  • Scanning documents and linking into the database
  • Loading of bulk data that is already in electronic format such as Excel and other databases
  • Loading LAS files to on-line
  • Loading SEGY Seismic datasets on-line
  • Attend to client requests As above

Finally, NOC required customization of the database to meet the exact needs of the corporation. In a similar manner, Teknica will modify the database to meet Perupetro's exact needs. The manpower to make the changes has been included in the bid price.

Production Allocation Database


Teknica's Database (called TekProd) at AGOCO is an Internet/Intranet based database for Production Allocation and Crude Oil Movement activities.

The Production Allocation and Crude Oil Movement Database is an Intranet based system for entering, storing, reporting of data pertaining to daily and monthly well, gathering center, field, pipeline and facility operations of AGOCO. The system retains all historical data in a single database thereby enabling reporting for past days, months and even years. Using the historical daily and monthly data, the system calculates monthly well production allocation (by prorating the adjusted field production back to each well based upon it's test flow rates and actual hours of operation). Once allocation is completed, the system produces the corresponding reports and bulk data exports for regulatory authorities (NOC). The system also calculates and reports on remaining reserves and simplified voidage.

The system contains approximately 30 main input screens, 20 set up (support) input screens and 110 output reports, graphs or bulk data exports. The system contains a permissions module that restricts users access to various subject areas for input and output.

The system has the following features and benefits:

  • The system is Internet/Intranet based. The means anyone with permission can use the system without installing any special software. All a user needs is connection to AGOCO's network and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
  • The system provides on-demand reports through the network. This means that reports can be quickly and easily display on the manager's computer by having the managers simply request the report of interest.
  • The system contains the complete history of the allocated production for all AGOCO's wells. This means that engineers can request the complete production history for use in reservoir engineering.
  • The system is Internet/Intranet based thereby demanding a simple, easy to use, user interface.
  • Reporting includes graphics. This means it's easy to visualize the historical production volumes of wells, gathering centers and fields.
  • The data validation and allocation algorithm have been unified across all AGOCO fields. Allocation volumes are now more accurate and users can be more confident in the reported volumes.
  • The system has several setup (support) screens that enable new wells, gathering centers, fields and pipelines to be added by the user. The system will accommodate AGOCO's growth.
  • Permissions are field based (in addition to being subject area based). This means that in the future, the data entry can be done in the field for only a specific field. Once all fields have reported, the consolidated reports will be available to managers and engineers in the head office.
  • The system has a GIS component to visualize the concession boundaries and well locations. In the future, this same GIS can display seismic lines, various contours, field outlines and other data if AGOCO decides to expand the database to a complete Exploration and Production database.

Lab Database


This project is for the supply of a database for the storage of routine core, special core and PVT data complete with industry standard reporting.

Teknica's Database (called TekLab) at the Petroleum Research Center is based on Microsoft Windows.




The database has the following major components.

Oil Movement


This project is for the supply of a database to track the movement of production from the field to the final sales points (refinery and shipping terminals). The database produces all the required daily, monthly and annual reports and graphs.

Teknica's Database at the AGIP is based on Microsoft Windows.

Corporate Technical Database (TDB)


Teknica's Corporate Technical Database (TDB) is being web based application for managing Exploration, Production, Reservoir, Drilling, Workover, Projects and Technical Data Library activities. The entire system displays a consistent look and feel to the user by using a browser as the application interface. With proper security and permissions setup, a user can access the database from anywhere in the world, or alternatively, access can be confined to an internal network.

The technical database is truly integrtaed across all the departmental interfaces and ll the subject area data is stored in a standardized data model. Teknica has selected the PPDM database model as the data repository for the technical database.

The technical database is able to manage historical data loading, new data loading and attending to client requests and this includes not only operating the physical stores of documents, magnet tapes and cores but also the populating of the database with on-line seismic, well, well bore (similar to the M5 well formats requirements by PeruPetro), production, field, drilling, workover, reserves, plans and budgets and projects data. A heavy component of this phase included the scanning of legacy seismic sections, reports, well files, maps and well logs.
